Features of the West Highland White Terrier breed

The West Highland White Terrier is a Scottish breed of small dogs, whose beautiful looks and perky nature made them a favorite of the public.

And although they are excellent hunting companions, these days they are much more often used as ordinary pets.

This breed was named after its homeland, western Scotland. Its name can be translated as "Alpine White Terrier", because it is the uneven hilly terrain that prevails in that part of the country. Locals just called these dogs "lead", because it is much shorter, and it sounds pretty cute. We got news from the crossing of other varieties of terriers: Scotch, Kern and Dandy Dinmont Terriers.

And the founder of the breed is the English cynologist Edward Malcolm. It was he who, at the beginning of the 20th century, purposefully began to breed these snow-white terriers and rejected all other colors. He wanted to create a hardy hunting breed of small size and easily visible white color. Such persistence in choosing a color is connected with a story from his life: when he was hunting with friends, one of his friends accidentally shot his red dog, confusing the latter with a fox.
